When It's Okay to Let Go of Being the Strong One

You've probably felt like you need to keep it all together, even when you're about to crack. But here's the truth: it's okay to put that burden down.

When It's Okay to Let Go of Being the Strong One

Hey friend,

You know that feeling when everyone sees you as the strong one? The go-to person in times of trouble? I get it. You've probably felt like you need to keep it all together, even when you're just about to crack underneath the pressure. Sometimes, it seems easier to carry everyone's burdens instead of admitting you're struggling too. But here's the truth: it's okay to put that burden down.

I want to share a personal experience. I've always been the one my friends turned to, the rock in their storms. For so long, I thought this meant I had to be unshakeable. But in reality, I was just masking my own fears and insecurities. I'd smile and give advice, but behind the scenes, I was fighting my own battles. And let me tell you, that gets heavy. Really heavy.

You see, God's design for us doesn't mean we have to be the strong one all the time. In scripture, Jesus showed us the importance of vulnerability. He wept, he felt pain, and he relied on others. If He, the Son of God, could show weakness, why can't we? It doesn't make us any less worthy or loving. If anything, it reminds us we're human. Because here's the thing: when we never allow ourselves to be weak, we miss the beauty of community.

Think about it. If you're always putting on a brave face, how can your friends truly support you? They might think you've got it all figured out, so they'll hold back their love and help. But when you open up, when you reveal your struggles, that invitation for connection is powerful. You're not just letting them in; you're also giving them permission to be real. And that's where healing happens.

So, how do you start letting go of that weight? It begins with simple, honest conversations. Find a friend, someone you trust, and share what's really going on. You might be surprised at how much relief comes from just saying the words out loud.

And remember, putting down the burden doesn't mean you're failing. It means you're embracing your full self—both the strength and the fragility. It's a balance we all need to find. When I finally allowed myself to lean on others, I discovered that vulnerability didn't take away my strength. Instead, it deepened my relationships and, ultimately, my faith.

As you navigate your own journey, take heart. It's okay to say, "I need help." It's okay to stumble or to express your hurt. In those moments of honesty, you often find the grace that God freely gives. I encourage you to take a breath, let your guard down, and trust that you're loved through all the highs and lows. You don't have to carry it all alone.

Remember, my friend, you're not just the strong one. You're a beautiful, complex human being deserving of support and love. So, go ahead—put that burden down.

With love and hope, — Darla.
